Announcement date: October 1, 2026

Patek Philippe has introduced Reference 5978P-010 for the Watch Art Grand Exhibition in Milan, bringing together two of the manufacture’s defining complications in a new configuration: a manually wound chronograph and an instantaneous perpetual calendar. The platinum watch is limited to 120 pieces and is one of the special editions created for the Milan exhibition.

What Patek Philippe officially announced

The central technical development is the new Calibre CH 29-535 PS QI. Patek Philippe describes it as the first time the manufacture has combined its manually wound chronograph architecture with an instantaneous perpetual calendar. Rather than moving the calendar indications gradually, the day, date and month displays are designed to change together.

The movement contains 500 components and 42 jewels, runs at 4 Hz, and provides a stated power reserve of 55 to 65 hours when the chronograph is disengaged. Its functions include a chronograph with an instantaneous 30-minute counter, perpetual calendar, leap-year and day/night indications, moon phases and small seconds.

Case, dial and edition

The 42 mm case is made from platinum and measures 14.24 mm thick. It is water-resistant to 30 metres and carries the discreet diamond at six o’clock associated with Patek Philippe’s platinum watches. The sapphire-crystal caseback bears a “Patek Philippe Milano 2026” inscription.

The navy-blue dial has a sunburst finish, black-gradient edge and textured centre. The calendar indications are in Italian, while red chronograph hands and red stitching on the composite strap reinforce the Milan-specific character. The watch is limited to 120 pieces.

Official price, availability and the market

When checked on October 5, 2026, Patek Philippe’s official product page displayed a price of €312,869 in the locale returned to Leo Gallery. That is an official regional display price, not a confirmed Canadian MSRP. Patek Philippe’s page does not establish Canadian allocation, delivery timing or retailer availability.

No reliable secondary-market history exists for a newly announced reference. The 120-piece production number may make the watch difficult to encounter, but it does not by itself establish a future resale premium. Any asking prices appearing immediately after launch should be treated as offers, not evidence of completed transactions.

Leo Gallery's Take

For collectors in Canada, the importance of the 5978P-010 is primarily technical. Patek Philippe has reworked one of its most recognizable complication combinations around an aperture-based instantaneous calendar, while giving the watch a more contemporary blue-and-red presentation. It is also a useful reminder that a globally significant launch can still be tied to a specific city and market.

Canadian buyers should distinguish the official specifications from purchase assumptions. The official page confirms the watch, movement, edition size and regional price shown above; it does not confirm Canadian supply or a Canadian transaction price. Currency conversion, applicable taxes, import costs and dealer allocation would all need separate confirmation before any purchase decision.
